TONI Childs spreads warmth and gratitude into the minds and hearts of those who attended her yoga class last Saturday at the Old Bar Surf Club.
Around 40 were in attendance and with the amount of positive reviews of the class, it is expected attendees will go again for Toni’s second class on Thursday, January 28 at 7pm at Old Bar Surf Club.
Julie Spicer from Yoga at Wallabi, has been practising yoga for more than 20 years and has taught yoga for around three.
Julie attended Toni’s class and was delighted the class took a different approach than a usual yoga class.
“It didn’t have the formal structure that a regular yoga class would have,” said Julie.
“It was more like a workshop and included music, dance, movement, meditation and yoga asanas.”
Julie described Toni as warm, compassionate and caring.
“She looked you in the eye when she sang the song ‘Because You’re Beautiful’ and it brought tears to many eyes,” Julie said.
The yoga tour is named after Toni’s iconic song “Because You’re Beautiful”.
“That was exactly the message she was delivering,” Julie said.
“In a playful, supported and caring way through dancing, singing and even a little bit of hugging, she showed us what self-love is, how to let go and connect with our hearts and others…. to accept who we are.”
Julie said she thinks it is important to be broad minded about yoga.
“There are many different styles of yoga and many different ways of teaching but I always find there is something new to learn,” said Julie.
Julie herself is trying something new with her classes, by conducting classes on the beach.
“A yoga practice on the beach is a beautiful experience,” she said.
“Practising with the sound of the ocean, the smell of the sea, the feeling of the breeze on your skin, the warmth of the sun and even the sand on your body helps to bring you into the moment.”
Julie is looking forward to Toni coming back to Old Bar next Thursday.
“Do yourself a favour and go along to warm your heart, feel good about yourself and bring a smile that will last for some time to come,” she said.
It is advised you bring mats and water to the class. Cost is $30.
